New Series, New Genre, New Publisher

All summer I've been immersed in finishing up the second book of my Middle Grade fantasy series, the Wishingworld. And just as I am anticipating moving on to the third book, I had the excellent news that EverImagine Books, a new imprint of Harbor Lane Books, will be publishing the first in the series.

I'm thrilled to be bringing the Wishingworld characters to life with EverImagine. Here's a little synopsis:

In WISHED FORWARD Twelve-year-old Ailey Windsong doesn’t want to do witches’ magic like all the other girls in the Wishingworld. Frustrated by making simple potions and healing herbs, she secretly practices the wizard spells that are taught only to boys. All their lives, Ailey has been covering for her twin brother, Ivan, the Trillium tribe’s golden child. Because Ailey has been correcting his magic, no one—not even Ivan—has noticed her twin is a terrible wizard.

At the yearly Bringing of the Light festival, a cloud of pollution in the human world blocks the nourishing sunlight Wishingfolk need to grow and thrive. When Ivan is chosen to battle the cloud, in order to fulfill an ancient legend that claims a Trillium child will save Wishingworld, Ailey is distraught.

In a desperate attempt to protect her brother—and her world—Ailey leaps through the portal after Ivan. But she’s not the only one in pursuit. Ivan’s rival, Fornier, feels he should have been the chosen one, and is hot on Ailey’s tail. When Ivan discovers the two have followed him, he is steaming mad, but eventually has to admit that he needs help with his magic. Not only must Ailey prove that she is worthy to practice wizard’s magic, but she will need to convince the boys to work together as they battle the dark forces they come up against—enemies both human and magical. The young Wishingfolk take a crash-course in climate change as they work to dispel the massive cloud of pollution and try to convince the coal companies to change their practices to benefit both the Wishingworld and their own.

Stay tuned for updates.
